Global Policy Forum 2012

The AFI Global Policy Forum is coming to Cape Town, South Africa in 2012

The Alliance for Financial Inclusion’s (AFI) annual, landmark Forum will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, on September 26-28, 2012, under the overall theme of Making Financial Inclusion Real

The 2012 AFI Global Policy Forum is expected to bring senior representatives from over 80 developing and emerging nations’ regulatory institutions from across the globe, along with financial inclusion policy experts and practitioners from AFI’s many partner institutions. The agenda will cover technical discussions on the quality of financial access and usage and will also feature a high level debate and dialogue on both the potential and the real impact of financial inclusion on the lives of the world’s unbanked.

Last year’s forum, held in Mexico, saw the AFI membership adopt the Maya Declaration, the first global and measurable set of commitments by developing and emerging countries to unlock the economic and social potential of 2.5 billion poorest people through greater financial inclusion. Twenty four AFI member institutions have followed through with concrete commitments to the Maya Declaration since and their progress will be highlighted during the three-day Forum. It is expected that GPF 2012 will see even more institutional commitments officially announced.
