GPF 2010 participants feedback report
The Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), in partnership with Bank Indonesia, held its second Global Policy Forum (GPF) in Bali, Indonesia, 27–29 September 2010. There were 300 registered participants, including 250 policymakers from 57 member and potential member institutions in 44 countries, and 51 strategic partners (researchers, private sector representatives, and NGOs) from 35 organizations. Of the 300 participants, 136 were from Bank Indonesia (though many only attended the opening ceremony). The GPF provides a platform for central banks and other regulatory bodies in developing countries around the world to exchange knowledge and experiences in expanding access to financial services to the poor. This year’s Forum follows the inaugural GPF held in Nairobi, Kenya in September 2009, which also marked the official launch of AFI.
Last year’s Forum, which was intended to orient the new AFI network and lay the groundwork for future activities, featured all six of AFI’s policy areas (plus data). The theme of this year’s GPF was, ―Taking Financial Inclusion to the Next Level‖. As the title implies, the Forum showcased the progress made by the AFI network and its members over the last year and delved deeper into key issues and policy solutions. Like last year, AFI aimed to maintain a spirit of active exchange and networking, and this year’s GPF featured a number of new innovative formats and unique tools to engage Forum participants.
