AFI’s Pacific Islands Regional Initiative (PIRI) members have decided to implement a shared supervisory technology (SupTech) platform.
At the PIRI Leaders’ Roundtable meeting on 3 September, members voted to implement the Bank Supervision Application (BSA), a web-based tool for regulating and monitoring financial institutions which is already being used by 21 regulators across Africa, Asia and the Americas. The platform will now be launched in the Pacific through pilot testing in Fiji and Vanuatu, with the view of rolling it out across the region.
“A diagnostic study identified BSA as the optimal tool for PIRI Central Banks’ unique needs,” said AFI’s Pacific Region Manager, Mereseini Tuivuniwai. “As well as standardizing supervisory practices, the platform will significantly modernize and enhance regulatory oversight, help address fraud and consumer protection issues, and accelerate the transition to inclusive digital economies.”
The launch of the SupTech platform follows a February 2025 workshop organized by AFI and Central Bank of Samoa, which explored opportunities to develop shared digital infrastructure in PIRI countries.
