The rapid growth of digital financial services (DFS) has been a powerful engine for financial inclusion, expanding access to financial services for millions globally. However, this progress has often led to market concentration, with a few dominant players controlling significant market share. This dominance can stifle innovation, limit consumer choice, and reduce the overall benefits of digital finance.
To address these challenges, AFI, through its Competition Knowledge Enablers Exchange (CKX) workstream, commissioned a new knowledge product. This webinar will serve as the official launch of the report, titled Advancing Fair Competition for Inclusive Digital Finance: Insights from Emerging Markets The report aims to provide regulators with a deeper understanding of how competition fosters financial inclusion. It identifies key bottlenecks in DFS markets, including exploitative pricing, exclusionary conduct, and the leveraging of platform power, and explores a range of regulatory responses to promote market entry, enhance interoperability, and prevent abuses of dominance.
