Objectives of the training
In addressing the needs of a nation’s rapidly changing financial sector, it is crucial to have in place a regulatory and supervisory framework that safeguards consumers and strengthens fair market conduct, while promoting sustained economic growth. Creating a marketplace in which consumers are able to make informed decisions is a shared responsibility of the regulator, the industry, consumers and other stakeholders.
Co-hosted by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), this five-day program will enlighten participants with the Malaysian experience of building up consumer empowerment within the perimeter of regulation. Strategies to ensure fair market practices, including enhancement to regulatory and supervisory framework, and development of more effective interventions for consumer empowerment will be discussed.
This JLP aims to equip the participants with knowledge and skills that will enable them to:
- Outline key components of a financial literacy blueprint using Malaysia’s National Strategy for Financial Literacy (2019-2023) to drive consumer empowerment
- Recognize the roles played by regulators, other agencies and organisations in Malaysia to drive consumer empowerment
- Identify the infrastructure, initiatives and approaches used to spur financial awareness in Malaysia
- Compare the different approaches applied by other countries to boost consumer empowerment, including lessons on what worked and what did not
- Make use of insights from behavioral science to inform strategies and tactics for effective consumer empowerment
