What are the Objectives of the Training?
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of virtually every economy in the world. AFI members work to identify policy frameworks and interventions that help address the gaps that remain in access to finance for MSMEs. In August 2019, AFI’s Small and Medium Enterprise Finance (SMEF) Working Group published the SME Finance Guideline Note which presents a range of good practices to facilitate access to finance for MSMEs and on which the training will be based. At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Detail each component of the MSME ecosystem from demand and supply side that involves various stakeholders in accelerating MSME financing.
- Appreciate the role of credit infrastructure as “enabler” for better MSME credit worthiness;
- Analyse the direct interventions for targeted MSME sectors and groups;
- Discuss on the various alternative finance instruments which include fintech options in giving more financing options for MSMEs and learn from Suriname and participating institutions; and
- Share learnings from examples of good practices of supporting women-led MSMEs that can be used in their respective jurisdictions.
Who Should Attend?
The training is intended for senior officials from MSME, Development Finance, Microfinance or Cooperative Supervision of AFI member organisations working to develop policies, frameworks or guidelines on promoting access to finance for MSMEs. The training will follow AFI’s model of peer learning and will be led by technical experts from the global AFI network and AFI Management Unit.
