More than one billion women worldwide remain excluded from formal financial services according to the 2017 Global Findex. In this context, women’s financial inclusion emerges as a priority among policy makers, development actors, international organizations, and financial service providers.
In these challenging times, financial service providers need leadership capable of navigating uncertain waters and taking urgent action considering multiple factors. Good governance is key in this scenario, as it translates into superior leadership and decision-making processes.
Both good corporate governance and issues related to equality and equity for women have become increasingly relevant in recent decades. Inclusive corporate governance enhances diversity and equity of talents, increases the effectiveness of governance, and allows for a more efficient allocation in the market that promotes well-being.
The objective of the training is to raise awareness among public and private financial sector actors, policy makers and the general public of the benefits and importance of mainstreaming a gender perspective and taking actions in corporate governance to promote equity between men and women in access to hierarchical positions in the financial sector, and to promote access to and use of financial products and services in historically excluded sectors.
