AFI is organizing African Financial Inclusion Policy Initiative (AfPI) Developing – Developed Country Dialogue (3D) “Adapting to crisis – financial sector supervision in times of COVID-19”. 3D will be held virtually on 19 August 2020 from 10:30 to 12:00 UTC.

Virtual AfPI 3D will foster knowledge sharing among AFI members in Africa and their peers from developed countries on practical supervisory approaches and solutions that may be effectively implemented in times of COVID-19 crisis.

The 3D will contribute to further strengthening financial sector resilience and enabling effective recovery to sustain and contribute to the growth of financial inclusion in Africa through in-depth discussions and cross learnings between AFI member institutions and peers from developed country financial regulatory institutions during the meeting.

The dialogue will focus on the following three key areas:

1) Highlighting financial sector supervision measures and approaches to ensure resilience of financial services and digital payments infrastructure.

2) Highlighting gender sensitive policy solutions to effectively channel support to women, youth, MSMEs and other sectors disproportionally affected by COVID-19.

3) Pointing out key policy implementation challenges and devising actions to address the gaps.

The insights of AFI members and their peers from developed countries will be synthesized in the form of a 3D Summary Note that will highlight key, practical gender sensitive policy solutions discussed at the meeting, along with practical lessons that will facilitate financial sector supervision in the times of COVID-19 in the region.
