AfPI Leaders Roundtable will gather over 100 delegates amidst intense week in Abidjan

It’s looking to be an intense week of events in Abidjan! In less than 10 days, over 100 financial inclusion policymakers and regulators, government officials and high-level representatives from AFI member institutions from Africa will convene in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire for the 7th Annual Roundtable of the Leaders of the African Financial Inclusion Policy Initiative (AfPI), taking place from 27-28 February, 2019.

The two-day event is hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Cote d’Ivoire, Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) and Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI).

As part of the agenda for the AfPI Leaders Roundtable, high-level representatives from AFI member institutions in Africa will officially celebrate the opening of the AFI Regional Office for Africa, based in Abidjan.

With the establishment of its Regional Office, AFI seeks to ensure greater proximity to its members in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and Middle East & North Africa (MENA) and respond efficiently to their needs. The Regional Office will also enhance the network’s ability to support its members in working on specific regional priorities, sharing regional knowledge, and translating global financial inclusion issues into practical implementation at regional and national levels.

Alongside high-level meetings, participants will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and perspectives with global thought leaders on the future of financial inclusion, and how to provide sustainable financial services to the last 1.7 billion unbanked. The Global Thought Leadership conference will convene on 1 March, 2019.

The two-day event will also uncover insights from private sector representatives and other stakeholders on practical ways to implement the two policy frameworks in Africa on innovative cross-border remittances and digital financial services interoperability. Both these policy frameworks were adopted in September 2018 during the AFI Global Policy Forum (GPF) in Sochi, Russia.

Prior to the AfPI Leaders Roundtable, a Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) training, Approaches to Enhancing Financial Inclusion through Digital Financial Services will be conducted from 26-27 February, 2019 in Abidjan. This training is aimed at officials that are leading the supervision, oversight, designing and implementing of payments and digital systems.
