Members convene for regional initiative EGFIP meetings

Ahead of the official opening of the 2019 AFI Global Policy Forum (GPF), AFI member institutions convened in Kigali, Rwanda, for a series of closed meetings on September 9 held exclusively for members taking part in regional initiatives.

Kicking off the day’s events were concurrent sessions for the Experts Groups on Financial Inclusion Policy (EGFIP) of AFI’s regional initiatives. More than 70 participants took part in the sessions for the African Financial Inclusion Policy Initiative (AfPI), Pacific Islands Regional Initiative (PIRI), Eastern Europe & Central Asia Policy Initiative (ECAPI) and Financial Inclusion Initiative for Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC) Regional Initiative.

The EGFIP meetings were followed by other sessions, most notably the graduation of the first-ever Leadership and Diversity Program for Regulators.

Over 800 global policymakers, regulatory institutions and development partners are due to gather on September 11-13 for the 2019 AFI GPF, the world’s most important forum for financial inclusion policymakers. In the run-up to its official opening, selected AFI members are invited to attend two days of meetings that are closed to the general public and press.
