AFI Executive Director Alfred Hannig was a featured speaker at the ‘XV Conferencias Sobre Supervisión Financiera’, on 17 August in Guatemala City, Guatemala where he made a presentation entitled “The Importance of Financial Inclusion.” AFI Network Member Superintendencia de Bancos de Guatemala (SIB) hosted the two-day conference attended by more than 1,000 participants.
“The presentation was very well received,” said Hannig. “The decision to take this topic high on the agenda of their annual event demonstrates the SIB’s priority on financial inclusion, as is the case with many other AFI members who are increasingly taking this important topic into their mandate as a regulator.”
Hannig also had the opportunity to hold an extensive working meeting with Superintendent of Banks Victor Mancilla, along with other top officials, to discuss SIB’s participation at the 2012 Global Policy Forum in Cape Town, South Africa, and their ongoing proactive role as a member of both the Mobile Financial Services Working Group (MFSWG) and the Consumer Empowerment and Market Conduct Working Group (CEMC).
“I would like to thank SIB for the warm reception, their hospitality, the invitation to speak, and their continued and strong commitment to financial inclusion and AFI,” said Hannig.
