The GPF 2011 opening ceremony launched the event into action, highlighting the key themes of growth, interconnectedness, and collaboration. Members were urged to leverage their strengths and transform their vision of financial inclusion into concrete goals.
To that end, Guillermo Babatz, President of Mexico’s CNBV, issued a call for policymakers to go forward with a “critical mind and participative spirit.”
Governor Agustin Carstens of the Central Bank of Mexico reiterated the interconnected nature of financial inclusion issues, stating that interest in financial inclusion as a policy priority stems from a recognition that is linked to economic growth and stability.
Accordingly, Alfred Hannig, Executive Director of AFI, emphasized the international prominence of financial inclusion, while Daniel Schydlowsky, Superintendent of the SBS of Peru, stressed the Peruvian government’s commitment to promoting inclusion.
