In the final hours of GPF 2011, Mexico’s President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa addressed a mix of Global Policy Forum (GPF) participants and newly arrived Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) attendees.
In this address, the president highlighted the progress Mexico has made in financial inclusion, noting that the number of banked adults in Mexico has doubled since 2004. The President also stressed the importance of financial services as a means to achieving social justice.
In pursuit of financial inclusion in Mexico, President Calderón was instrumental in creating the National Council for Financial Inclusion, a key development in Mexico’s drive to bring financial access to all citizens.
