Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was recently named the winner of the 2013 Africa Central Bank Governor of the Year Award. Dr. Sanusi was recognized for outstanding work in sustaining banking reforms, macroeconomic stability, protecting independence for the Bank, and the adoption of innovative financial inclusion technologies.

“There is no doubt that Africa’s improved reputation today is in large part owed to the achievements of leaders like (Dr. Sanusi) … (and his) exceptional contribution to the economic and social development of the African continent,” the committee stated, according to an online report in Leadership.

The award committee also mentioned Dr. Sanusi stood out due to his continuous modernization and more transparent disclosures in the banking sector, including the adoption of higher reporting standards for banks.
