Norbert Mumba is the Deputy Executive Director of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), the world’s leading organization on financial inclusion policy and regulation.
In his role as DED, Norbert leads the financial inclusion technical support, trainings and implementation work of the organization, as well as governance activities. He oversees technical support and training needs of AFI member institutions through the Working Groups and Policy Programs, Capacity Building, Inclusive Green Finance, as well as in-country implementation policy support. He is also overseeing the development of knowledge products in digital financial services, data, consumer protection and market conduct, SME finance, national financial inclusion strategy. He is in charge of AFI’s regional initiatives through AFI Regional Offices in Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean. Norbert advises the Executive Director on good corporate governance matters for the smooth operation of the AFI network.
Norbert has more than 25 years of senior management experience in Zambia, including 19 years at the Bank of Zambia (BOZ)—a member institution of AFI—where he held numerous positions such as Assistant Director of Regulatory Policy, Licensing and Liquidations, and Director of Bank Supervision. He has been a member of several technical committees aimed at reforms of the banking sector at national, regional and international level.
Norbert holds an MBA from Heriot Watt University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Coventry University, Post Graduate Diploma in Law from University of Cumbria, and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Zambia. He is also an International Labor Organization certified trainer for the Female and Male Operated Enterprises (FAMOS) Check, and an Institute of Directors of Zambia (IODZ) certified Trainer in Good Corporate Governance.
