African Mobile Phone Financial Services Policy Initiative (AMPI)

The African Mobile Phone Financial Services Policy Initiative (AMPI) was created to be the firm platform for Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) member institutions in Africa to provide high-level leadership in the overall development of mobile financial services (MFS) policy and regulatory frameworks, and to coordinate efforts of regional peer learning. This in turn broadens knowledge and promotes MFS policy development throughout the entire AFI Network.

The initiative is a framework through which AFI members determine effective policy solutions for advancing MFS across the African continent through cooperation among policymakers and regulators, private sector players, development partners as well as research institutions. AMPI serves as a mechanism to drive responsible uptake of the use of mobile financial services in Africa and to contribute to mutual learning and best practices.

The AMPI leaders meet regularly with the relevant MFS stakeholders in Africa to review progress and discuss policy solutions that contribute to accelerate MFS growth and uptake in the continent.
