Banco Central del Ecuador, AFI to co-host central bank seminar in Quito

AFI Executive Director Alfred Hannig will travel to Ecuador this week to take part in the ‘Seminario Internacional Bancos Centrales: Sistemas de Pagos E Inclusión Financiera’, on 2 August in Quito. Mr. Hannig is scheduled to be one of the featured speakers during the morning session, and will give the closing remarks to the assembled participants. The event will provide a platform for key stakeholders to exchange ideas on the role of central banks and payment systems in the context of financial inclusion policy.

Co-hosted by Banco Central del Ecuador, Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina, MERCOSUR and AFI, the event is being held as a part of the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Banco Central del Ecuador. More than 380 participants will attend, representing both the Latin American region and the global financial inclusion community. AFI members invited to speak during the seminar include Stephen Mwaura (Central Bank of Kenya), Carlos Lopez-Moctezuma (Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores), Dr Saeed Ahmed (State Bank of Pakistan), and Nancy Fernández Llaguno (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas).

On 3 August, MERCOSUR will host the XXIV Reunión de Presidentes de Bancos Centrales de MERCOSUR, a follow-up meeting of Central Bank Presidents during which Mr. Hannig is also scheduled to give a short presentation and participate in the follow-up workshop.
