Ibrahim appointed new Bank Negara Malaysia governor

Muhammad Ibrahim will take up the role of Governor at Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) on May 1, 2016. He takes over the position from Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, who steps down after 16 years at the head of Malaysia’s central bank.

Mr. Ibrahim has served in Bank Negra Malaysia for 32 years and has been Deputy Governor since 2010.

In a prepared statement the new governor said, “I accept the appointment as Governor with great humility. I look upon it as an opportunity and call to serve the nation.”

He also thanked outgoing Governor Zeti for “her exemplary leadership and enormous contributions to the Bank and to the nation”
