AFI to establish regional office in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire
The Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), announced on Thursday 11th May 2017 in Maputo, at the 5th Annual Roundtable of the Leaders of the African Mobile Phone Financial Services Policy Initiative (AMPI), that the AFI Regional Office in Africa will be hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Côte d'Ivoire and the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
In announcing the host, AFI’s Deputy Executive Director Mr. Norbert Mumba said that the setting up of the Regional Office in Africa is an important milestone for the AFI Network and its Regional Initiative for Africa. Mr. Mumba also thanked other bidders who submitted highly impressive and comprehensive proposals.
High-level leaders and representatives from 24 AFI member institutions in Africa attending the event in Maputo, Mozambique were delighted with the announcement. The AFI Management Unit will now continue the discussions with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Côte d'Ivoire and BCEAO for the setting-up of the Regional Office in Africa.
AFI’s Executive Director Alfred Hannig passed on his congratulations, and indicated that the new office could make a significant impact on financial inclusion programs throughout the region. “Africa continues to be a global financial inclusion trailblazer and a home for innovation. With this office AFI will be able to better support the important work of our members, and help to highlight African leadership across the network.”
