BNM-AFI Member Training: Financial Inclusion Strategy and Data Programme


What are the objectives of this training?

At the end of the programme, participants would be able to:

  • Discuss recent developments, emerging issues and AFI’s approach in the areas of financial inclusion strategy (FIS) and data.
  • Develop appropriate FIS through the four phases of strategy development namely pre-formulation (diagnostics), formulation, implementation and measurement.
  • Use financial inclusion data throughout the four phases of strategy development.
  • Apply effective strategies to enable multi-stakeholder coordination and collaboration throughout the four phases of strategy development.

What are the topics that will be covered?

  • Recent developments, emerging issues, and AFI’s approach in the areas of FIS and data.  This includes gender considerations in strategy development, innovations in digital financial services, approaches targeted towards particularly marginalised groups (e.g. forcibly displaced persons, foreign workers, the disabled, and youth), linkages of NFIS to the Sustainable Development Goals, integrating strategies on green finance and climate change.
  • Best practices adopted by countries in taking forwards the four phases of strategy development.
  • Methodologies for the collection and usage of data and indicators to conduct financial inclusion diagnostics, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and impact measurement.
  • Common challenges and key considerations to ensure effective coordination and collaboration with multiple stakeholders throughout the four phases of strategy development.

Who should attend?

Senior officials of AFI member institutions who are at the forefront of developing and implementing their national financial inclusion strategy; those enforcing financial inclusion data frameworks will benefit the most from the event.

Participants are expected to share their country experiences and actively participate in the exercises. They would be required to develop an action plan during the event and commit to its implementation.
