AFI ED Hannig panelist at flagship WB, IMF session in Peru

AFI Executive Director Alfred Hannig will join of panel of experts to discuss financial inclusion at a flagship session of the World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings in Lima, Peru on 8 October.

Held under the banner of “Financial Inclusion: Can It Meet Multiple Macroeconomic Goals?”, the panel will also include, Min Zhu, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF; Liliana Rojas-Suarez, Senior Fellow from Center for Global Development; Raghuram Rajan, Governor of Reserve Bank of India; and Carolina Trivel, Peru’s former Minister of Social Inclusion.

This session’s inclusion as a flagship of the WB/IMF meetings, reflects how quickly financial inclusion has moved up the reform agenda for individual countries international organizations. There are now more than 60 governments across the world who have financial inclusion as a formal target, with a vast majority of those targets set as a part of AFI’s Maya Declaration commitments. In addition, the UN’s recently announced 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Addis Ababa Action Agenda has made financial inclusion a key objective for United Nations member countries, as well as highlighting AFI as an ideal partner for this effort.

The session will be moderated by CNN e-correspondent Gabriela Frias, is scheduled to take place from 10:00-11:15 (GMT-5) and will be held at Lima Convention Center.
