AFI is excited to announce the addition of yet another invaluable member to its global network – the General Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship of Women and Youth (DER/FJ). Already a regional frontrunner in areas such as financial education and gender inclusive finance, DER/FJ hopes to give and gain comprehensive insight on financial inclusion policy development and implementation from its new associate membership role within AFI.
Established in 2017 by a Decree of the President of the Republic of Senegal, DER/FJ was founded to promote economic participation and financial inclusion among women and young people, with funding initiatives directed at nano credit, micro-credit, and support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). During a meeting with AFI Executive Director, Alfred Hannig in November last year, DER/FJ Head, Dr. Mame Aby SEYE, underlined: “We are dealing with people categorized as ‘risky’ by the traditional financial system… [yet] they have the highest rate of reimbursement of their loans”.
DER/FJ will also take part in the work of the African Financial Inclusion Policy Initiative (AfPI). As AFI’s primary platform for African members, AfPI supports the development and implementation of practical financial inclusion policies, regulatory frameworks and other knowledge products on the continent, while coordinating regional capacity building and peer learning efforts.
